Edward Balcerzan

Literaturoznawca, poeta, prozaik, tłumacz, eseista, członek-korespondent Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności. Zajmuje się przeobrażeniami polskiej poezji XX wieku, łącząc badanie nad poezją z refleksją teoretycznoliteracką. Interesują go zagadki sztuki tłumaczenia. Laureat nagrody PAN im. A. Brucknera, Fundacji Jurzykowskiego w Nowym Jorku, Polskiego PEN Clubu, „Literatury na Świecie”, Nagrody im. Kazimierza Wyki. W latach 1993-2007 kierownik Zakładu Teorii i Historii Literatury XX Wieku IFP UAM. Autor m.in. takich książek, jak: Tłumaczenie jako „Wojna światów” (2009), Literackość. Modele, gradacje, eksperymenty (2013) i Pochwała poezji. Z pamięci, z lektury (2013).

Edward Balcerzan – literary scholar, poet, author, translator, essayist, corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Learning. His work focuses on transformations of Polish poetry in the twentieth century, joining analysis of poetic texts with literary theory. He is interested in problems of literary translation. Winner of numerous awards, from the Polish Academy of Sciences (the A. Bruckner Award), the Alfred Jurzykowski Foundation, the Polish PEN Club, Literatura na Świecie (World Literature), and the Kazimierz Wyka Award. From 1993 to 2007, Balcerzan was head of the Department of 20th Century Literature, Literary Theory and the Art of Translation at the Institute of Polish and Classical Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University. He is the author of such books as: Tłumaczenie jako „Wojna światów” (Translation as War of the Worlds, 2009), Literackość. Modele, gradacje, eksperymenty (Literariness. Models, Degrees, Experiments, 2013) and Pochwała poezji. Z pamięci, z lektury (In Praise of Poetry. From Memory, From Reading, 2013).
